Kathlyn Powell is an Associate Professor in the School of Dentistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, with appointments in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (2015–present) and Otolaryngology (2016–present). She has served as a Scientist at UAB's Global Center for Craniofacial, Oral and Dental Disorders (GC-CODED) since 2017.

Her research focuses on craniofacial disorders, anesthesia safety, and surgical outcomes in cleft lip/palate patients. Teaching roles include courses on dental anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery, and conscious sedation (2015–2024). She co-chaired a dissertation committee for Caris M Smith (2022).
