Kathleen Wren is a Tenured Professor and Asst. Director of DNP–Nurse Anesthesia Emphasis in the College of Nursing at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. She holds a PhD in Adult Education (University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 1998), MS in Nursing (Rush University, 1984), and BS in Nursing (Union College, 1981). Certified as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) since 2021, she maintains advanced certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
Her expertise focuses on nurse anesthesia practice and adult education. Research interests include chronic pain management, anesthesia safety protocols, and healthcare ethics. Notable work includes the Mary Hanna Award-winning 2022 study on lidocaine infusion therapy and multiple case studies addressing clinical emergencies like asystole and anesthesia machine failure.
Dr. Wren has presented widely on topics like clinical simulation training, CRNA career pathways, and nursing education ethics. Her grants include HRSA funding for nurse anesthesia traineeships (2023, 2017, 2015–2009). She actively advocates for healthcare worker safety, evidenced by her 2020 editorial addressing caregiver violence prevention.
Her publications span 35 years, with contributions to AANA Journal, Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing, and nursing education textbooks. Current work emphasizes translational research linking clinical practice innovations to nursing education curricula.
