Kathleen Vogel is a Professor and Associate Dean at the School for the Future of Innovation in Society, Arizona State University. She also serves as a Senior Global Futures Scientist at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory. Prior to ASU, she held tenured positions at the University of Maryland (School of Public Policy), North Carolina State University (Department of Political Science), and Cornell University (joint appointment in Science and Technology Studies and Judith V. Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies).

Her research focuses on knowledge production in security and intelligence, particularly: (1) biotechnology threats and ethics (e.g., genome editing), funded by the U.S. Air Force and NSF; (2) U.S. intelligence community’s use of AI and Big Data, in collaboration with the Alan Turing Institute and Laboratory for Analytic Sciences; (3) natural disasters as human trafficking catalysts, with Dr. Catherine Worsnop; and (4) the comparative ethics of U.S. and Soviet bioweapons scientists, with collaborators from Cornell and George Mason University.
Her recent publications span AI in cybersecurity, biodefense, biosecurity policy, and socio-technical ecosystems. Scientific awards include the Jefferson Science Fellowship and William C. Foster Fellowship from the U.S. Department of State. She teaches courses in science, power, and politics, and advises on interdisciplinary projects.
