Stefan Vogel

Stefan Vogel is an Associate Professor in Nanobioscience at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), where he leads a research group at the Nucleic Acid Center. He is actively involved in cutting-edge research in nanomedicine, nucleic acid chemistry, and targeted drug delivery systems.

Stefan Vogel's research focuses on the medicinal chemistry of nucleic acids, with emphasis on targeted delivery of modified oligonucleotides, controlled assembly of liposomes, and synthesis of soft nanoparticles. His work integrates synthetic biology, supramolecular chemistry, and nanotechnology to develop innovative therapeutic and diagnostic platforms. Key areas include automated synthesis of bioconjugates, PET imaging agents, and theranostic applications. His recent work explores DNA-programmed nanoreactors and photocatalytic systems for green chemistry.

His recent publications (2023–2025) demonstrate strong trends in programmable biomolecular systems, lipid nanoparticles, and hybrid catalysis. Articles in Journal of the American Chemical Society and Small highlight advancements in DNA-encoded liposome fusion, RNA loading of extracellular vesicles, and photobiocatalysis, reflecting a cohesive trajectory toward intelligent, biomimetic nanoreactors.

Stefan Vogel has supervised multiple students and postdoctoral researchers, including Nikolaj A. Risgaard, Kamil Bakowski, and Philipp Löffler. His work bridges fundamental chemistry with translational biomedical applications.

He is actively involved in research groups and collaborative networks at SDU, particularly within the Nucleic Acid Center, focusing on interdisciplinary projects involving synthetic chemistry, nanotechnology, and molecular biology.
