Kathleen Trahanovsky

Kathleen Trahanovsky is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Chemistry at Iowa State University, serving as Associate Coordinator of General Chemistry. She has taught for over 30 years, focusing on General and Organic Chemistry. She holds a B.A. from Emmanuel College and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Iowa State University.

Her research interests include promoting diversity in STEM through leadership roles in the Women Chemists Committee (American Chemical Society, 1989-1991) and directorship of Science Bound, a program partnering Iowa State scientists, Des Moines schools, and local businesses to increase minority enrollment in STEM. She also leads the NASA-funded PIPELINES project with Southern University Baton Rouge.

Recognition includes awards for teaching, advising, and mentoring from her department and college. She is affiliated with Iota Sigma Pi, Sigma Xi, and the Association for Women in Science.
