Malika Jeffries-EL is a Professor at Boston University and has served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences since July 2020. She leads a research group focused on organic semiconductor design for optoelectronic applications, having relocated her laboratory from Iowa State University to Boston University in 2016.
Her academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree from Wellesley College, followed by Master's and Doctoral degrees from The George Washington University. She completed postdoctoral training at Carnegie Mellon University under Professor Richard D. McCullough, where she developed her expertise in organic electronics.
Research interests span Organic Electronics, Materials Chemistry, and Synthetic Chemistry with emphasis on Organic Semiconductors for OLEDs and OPVs. Her work integrates molecular design with device engineering to advance sustainable optoelectronic technologies.
Major honors include:
- 2012 Rising Star Award (ACS Women Chemists Committee)
- 2013 Agnes Fay Morgan Award (Iota Sigma Pi)
- 2021 Percy Julian Award (NOBCChE)
- Fellow of the American Chemical Society
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry
She contributes extensively to scholarly publishing as Editorial Board member of Chemical Science (since 2022) and former Associate Editor for Journal of Materials Chemistry C (2013-2022), while serving on advisory boards for Materials Advances and Journal of Materials Chemistry C.
Her research group continues pioneering work in organic semiconductor synthesis, maintaining active collaborations across the chemical sciences community.
