معرفی
Kathleen P Howard, Ph.D., is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Swarthmore College. Her research focuses on atomic-level structural and dynamic analysis of membrane-bound molecules. Contact details include her office (610-328-8519), lab (610-328-7759), and email (khoward1@swarthmore.edu).
Education:
- A.B. in Chemistry from Princeton University (1990)
- Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry from Yale University (1995)
Dr. Howard’s research program addresses the critical gap in high-resolution structural data for membrane proteins by developing and applying biophysical methods such as spin-label EPR spectroscopy. Recent work involves synthetic spin-labeling of the influenza A M2 protein, reconstitution into lipid membranes, and analysis of EPR spectral properties to determine conformational states. Her work bridges structural biology, biophysics, and molecular virology.
Labs and Teams: Dr. Howard’s research is conducted in her lab at Swarthmore College, which maintains dedicated facilities for EPR spectroscopy and membrane protein studies.
