Kathleen Meert

Dr. Kathleen Meert is Professor and Chair of Pediatrics at Central Michigan University College of Medicine. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Critical Care Medicine and practices in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital of Michigan (CHM). Dr. Meert has been a Principal Investigator for the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network (CPCCRN) since its inception in 2005.

Dr. Meert's research focuses on improving outcomes for critically ill children through multicenter clinical trials. Her work spans pediatric cardiac arrest resuscitation, sepsis management, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and long-term outcomes following critical illness. She has published extensively in high-impact journals including Critical Care Medicine, Resuscitation, and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, with approximately 30-40 publications annually in recent years.

Analysis of Dr. Meert's recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on physiological parameters during resuscitation, anticoagulation practices in ECMO, and quality-of-life outcomes after pediatric sepsis. Her work often involves large collaborative efforts with dozens of co-authors representing multiple pediatric intensive care units across the United States.

Dr. Meert has mentored many trainees and junior faculty at Children's Hospital of Michigan and other institutions. She serves on the National Advisory Committee for the NICHD Pediatric Critical Care and Trauma Scientist Development K12 Program and as a study section member for the NICHD Pediatric Scientific Review Group. Previously, she served as President of the Wayne State University School of Medicine Faculty Senate and as Chair of the WSU pediatric institutional review board.

Dr. Meert completed medical school at Wayne State University and completed her pediatric residency and critical care fellowship in the Detroit Medical Center. Her clinical expertise directly informs her research focus on evidence-based improvements in pediatric critical care practices.
