Kathleen A. Horvath

Dr. Kathleen A. Horvath serves as Associate Professor of String Education and Pedagogy at Case Western Reserve University's Conservatory of Music, where she teaches music education and string pedagogy courses, supervises student teachers, and directs both the Case/University Circle Symphony Orchestra and Case Camerata Chamber Orchestra.

Her academic background includes a BM in double bass from Eastman School of Music, an MA in performance and string pedagogy from The Ohio State University, and a PhD in music education from The Ohio State University.

Research centers on preventing performance-related injuries through correct body positioning, with publications spanning music education methodology and string pedagogy. Her scholarly work appears in journals like Music Educators Journal and American String Teacher, emphasizing practical applications for musicians' physical health.

She has presented as a clinician at major conferences including The Midwest Clinic, NSOA Conferences, and state-level music educator associations across New York, Ohio, Georgia, and Alaska, focusing on teacher training and string education techniques.

As an active performer, she has held principal double bass positions with Champaign-Urbana Symphony and Opera Illinois, performed with ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, and served as featured soloist at the 1996 Festival of Women Composers International. She currently chairs the National ASTA with NSOA Print Music Task Force.
