Katherine Verdolini Abbott is a Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at the University of Delaware's College of Health Sciences. She conducts research at the Voice and Motor Learning Lab and is a founding member of the Delaware Voice Consortium. Her work spans voice science, voice disorders, and motor learning.
- Education: Ph.D. in Speech & Hearing Sciences (Washington University, 1991), M.S. in Speech Pathology (Indiana University, 1983), M.Div. (Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, 2014)
Research Interests: Focus on voice production, voice disorders, and motor learning mechanisms. Key areas include vocal fold biomechanics, psychobiological stress reactivity, and translational systems biology applications in voice pathophysiology.
Scientific Awards: ASHA Fellow (2000), ASHA Honors (2009), National awards for voice research from the Journal of Voice, and the Mental Illness Research Association Milestone Award (1997).
Professional Leadership: Former Editor and Associate Editor for Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research and American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology. Regular reviewer for National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.
