Katherine Starzyk is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Arts, specializing in Social and Personality Psychology. As a Polish Canadian woman and the first in her working-class family to attend university, she integrates personal identity into her academic work.
Her research focuses on shifting attitudes toward human rights issues, with a focus on Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations in Canada. She employs multidisciplinary methodologies, including interviews, surveys, and experimental designs, and collaborates with Indigenous partners through projects like the Canadian Reconciliation Barometer. She is affiliated with the Centre for Human Rights Research and the Centre for Social Science Research and Policy.
Her publications emphasize psychometric validation, reparations support, solidarity dynamics, and reconciliation metrics. She mentors graduate and undergraduate students in the Social Justice Laboratory and has received funding from SSHRC, MITACS, and Indigenous knowledge networks.
