Dr. Katherine Sanders is an Assistant Professor in the School of Human Sciences at the University of Western Australia. She completed her BSc (Hons) and PhD at UWA and has been teaching since 2002. From 2013 to 2023, she led the prestigious Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) program before returning to a teaching-intensive role. She currently co-chairs the Learning and Teaching committee and coordinates undergraduate and postgraduate units in human reproductive biology, research methods, and ethics.
Her research focuses on human reproduction, particularly psychosocial stressors affecting fertility, lifestyle impacts on ART outcomes, and child survival in rural Timor-Leste. She collaborates with Western Australian ART clinics and has secured grants from USAID, the Australian Research Council, and the Raine Medical Research Foundation. Her teaching spans reproductive pathology, women's health, and physiology across multiple disciplines.
Externally, she serves on the Reproductive Technology Council’s Preimplantation Genetic Testing Committee. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing health, gender equality, and poverty reduction.
Recent research trends emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to reproductive health challenges, integrating clinical, social, and environmental factors. Over 50 publications reflect her contributions to fertility science, education, and global health. She has supervised four graduate students and actively participates in curriculum development to enhance inclusivity in medical education.
