Katherine R. Goetzinger

Katherine R. Goetzinger, MD, MSCI is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Since joining the faculty in 2015 she has served as Program Director of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship and Director of Perinatal Outreach, while also spearheading the statewide Perinatal Telemedicine program.

Research & Clinical Focus:
Dr. Goetzinger’s scholarly work centers on the antenatal identification of placental dysfunction and the prediction of adverse pregnancy outcomes. She employs advanced three-dimensional ultrasound and Doppler velocimetry to quantify placental vascularization and fetal brain blood flow, particularly in pregnancies complicated by fetal growth restriction. Her clinical expertise spans comprehensive care of high-risk obstetric patients, invasive and non-invasive prenatal diagnosis, fetal echocardiography, and complex intrapartum management. She also leads efforts to integrate evidence-based medicine and epidemiologic principles into graduate medical education.

Beyond her investigative portfolio, Dr. Goetzinger directs the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship, guiding the next generation of subspecialists through rigorous clinical and research training. Her Perinatal Outreach and Telemedicine Program delivers expert high-risk consultation to underserved regions across Maryland, markedly improving access to specialized obstetric care and reducing perinatal disparities.
