Dr. Katherine Price is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Physiology and Human Biology at the University of Glasgow’s School of Life Sciences. She holds a medical degree (MBChB) and has 16 years of clinical experience as an Emergency Medicine Consultant before transitioning to academia. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds a Senior Fellowship in the University of Glasgow’s Recognising Excellence in Teaching (RET) framework. Her roles include Programme Lead for the BSc Honours Human Biology and coordination of the final-year course Current Topics in Human Biology & Physiology (BIOL 4225).
Her research focuses on pedagogical innovation, particularly problem-based learning (PBL), interdisciplinary education integrating arts/humanities into science, and faculty learning communities. She explores how these methods enhance student engagement and professional development. Her work also addresses health equity, including STEM education access for Gypsy, Traveller, Roma, Showman, and Boater (GTRSB) communities through physiology-focused outreach.
Dr. Price’s publications emphasize collaborative learning models, flipped lectures, and faculty development. Notable contributions include studies on the effectiveness of faculty learning communities and the role of social media in professional networking for students. She actively contributes to teaching initiatives such as the University of Glasgow’s Teaching Excellence Network and the Veterinary Medicine Education Forum.
Her awards include the Royal College of Emergency Medicine Fellowship and recognition for teaching excellence. She supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, mentoring students in areas like bioethics, anatomical imaging, and lifestyle medicine.
