Robert A McKerlie is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's Dental School within the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing. He serves as Deputy Director of Dental Education and the Dental School's Lead for Digital and Online Education. With over 29 years of teaching experience, he specializes in dental technology within Restorative Dentistry for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
McKerlie earned his MSc (Med Sci) from the University of Glasgow in December 2004, with research focused on e-Learning in dental education. His educational background demonstrates a longstanding commitment to innovative teaching approaches in dental education.
His research focuses on teaching and learning methodologies, with particular emphasis on student engagement and technology-enhanced learning. McKerlie has pioneered innovative approaches including self-selected study modules (SSMs) in eLearning where students partner with faculty to develop learning objects, and established the Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching (TELT) Partnership Group. His work often explores digital workflows in dental education, student-staff partnerships, and curriculum development.
