Dr. Margaux Horn is a Senior Lecturer in Physiology (Education & Scholarship) at Keele University School of Medicine. She holds a first-class BSc in Pharmacology with Industrial Experience from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD in Cardiac Physiology from the University of Manchester. Her research has focused on cardiac physiology, particularly extracellular matrix remodeling in aging and heart failure, for which she received the BSCR Bernard and Joan Marshall Young Investigator Prize (2013). Transitioning to teaching, she specializes in cardiovascular science education, leading the MBChB Year 2 'Circulation' unit and serving as an admissions tutor. She is also The Physiological Society’s Keele Representative and a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (2024).
Her scholarship emphasizes innovative teaching methods, including digital escape rooms for physiology revision, earning the David Jordan Teaching Award (2020). She teaches across MBChB, MSc Physician’s Associate, and MSci Paramedic Science programs, focusing on pharmacology and physiology with a cardiovascular emphasis. Her pedagogical work includes problem-based learning (PBL) leadership and academic mentoring.
Her research outputs span both physiological science and medical education, with recent work emphasizing active learning strategies and curriculum innovation. Earlier studies explored cardiac aging mechanisms and heart failure pathophysiology using ovine models. She collaborates on projects like the MSF innovation for Year 1 medical students and critical thinking tools in PBL.
