Katherine Ponte is an Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University's Yale School of Medicine. She holds a BA in Political Science from Western University, a JD from Osgoode Hall Law School, and an MBA from the Wharton School. Her academic work focuses on improving financial and healthcare access for low-income individuals with mental illness. She is a leading advocate in mental health recovery, blending clinical expertise with lived experience of severe bipolar I disorder and psychosis.
Her research emphasizes peer support networks, psychiatric rehabilitation, and stigma reduction. Notable initiatives include founding ForLikeMinds, an online community for mental health recovery, and Psych Ward Greeting Cards, a nonprofit distributing recovery messages to psychiatric patients. She has authored multiple books, including ForLikeMinds: Mental Illness Recovery Insights and co-authored Loving Someone with a Serious Mental Illness.
Recipient of the prestigious Mogens Schou Award for bipolar disorder advocacy, Dr. Ponte also contributes to journals like Psychiatric Services and Schizophrenia Bulletin. She chairs the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) NYC board and serves on Fountain House’s advisory board.
