Dr. Katherine Lloyd is a Senior Lecturer in Museum Studies at the University of Glasgow, contributing to postgraduate teaching and professional training within the College of Arts. She focuses on critical heritage studies, cultural politics, and museum learning engagement. Her research explores how heritage shapes identities and belonging, particularly in Scotland and Europe. She has held roles at Newcastle University, the University of Edinburgh, and Heriot-Watt University, and her PhD (2014) examined heritage’s role in young people’s national identity formation.
Research interests include intangible cultural heritage, museums and migration, visitor studies, and co-production in digital spaces. She has collaborated with institutions like The Hunterian and Tyne & Wear Archives, and co-founded the MeLa Project studying museums in migratory contexts. She received a 2022 College Teaching Excellence Award as part of the Museum Studies Team.
Teaching roles include convening MSc Museum Studies programs and courses like Museum Learning and Engagement. Supervision focuses on co-creative events with digital heritage collections, emphasizing collaboration between museums, communities, and users. Active in the Association of Critical Heritage Studies, she has organized events for its UK Chapter.
Key projects include the Co-Curate North East initiative for digital community curation and the MeLa Project on museums and migration. Her work highlights the socio-affective dimensions of cultural heritage engagement, advocating for inclusive museum practices through place-based narratives and co-creative methodologies.
