Katherine Levine Einstein is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of Undergraduate Studies at Boston University, as well as Associate Director at the Initiative on Cities. She joined BU in 2012 after earning her Ph.D. in Government and Social Policy from Harvard University and a B.A. from Yale University. Her research focuses on urban politics, racial and ethnic politics, and public policy, particularly examining issues like housing policy, political inequality, and participatory democracy.
Her first book, *Do Facts Matter? Information and Misinformation in Democratic Politics* (2015), explores the impact of misinformation on democracy. Her second book, *Neighborhood Defenders: Participatory Politics and America’s Housing Crisis* (2019), investigates how political inequality shapes housing policy. She co-leads the Menino Survey of Mayors, a longitudinal study of U.S. mayors' policy priorities and challenges. Her work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, and others.
Einstein’s research appears in journals such as the *American Journal of Political Science*, *British Journal of Political Science*, and *Urban Affairs Review*. She teaches courses on urban politics, racial inequality, and HBO’s *The Wire*. She serves on editorial boards and is affiliated with BU’s Hariri Institute for Computing and African American Studies Department.
