Katherine Kemler serves as the Charles and Mary Barré Alumni Professor of Flute at Louisiana State University's School of Music and performs with the Timm Wind Quintet. Her career spans international performance, masterclass instruction, and recording across five continents, with featured appearances at National Flute Association conventions in 14 U.S. cities and global festivals.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Oberlin Conservatory and advanced degrees (M. Mus., D.M.A.) from S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook under Samuel Baron, Robert Willoughby, and Mark Thomas. Her artistry was further shaped through masterclasses with Marcel Moyse, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Julius Baker, William Bennett, Andras Adorjan, and Michel Debost.
Professor Kemler's work focuses on expanding flute repertoire through performance and recording, particularly in contemporary music and chamber collaborations. Her four commercial albums—including "Virtuoso American Flute Works," "Sky Loom" (flute/harp duo), and "Lipstick" (contemporary works)—demonstrate expertise in both classical and modern idioms. She maintains active international engagement through masterclasses at institutions like the Shanghai Conservatory, Sydney Conservatorium, and Oxford Flute Summer School.
As a performing artist, she has appeared as soloist with the British Chamber Orchestra at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Orchestra Medicea Laurenziana across Italy. Her media presence includes BBC Radio 3 broadcasts and features on the covers of American Piper Magazine, Flute Talk Magazine, and Flutist Quarterly.
