Katherine Hunt is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton with a nursing background, specializing in Complex and End of Life Care. Her work focuses on exposing and reducing inequalities in end-of-life care for marginalized populations through rigorous research and advocacy.
Her research interests include:
- Measurement of palliative and end-of-life care quality
- Health inequities in end-of-life access
- End-of-life care for people with intellectual disabilities
- Bereavement following unexpected child death
- Disease trajectories for non-cancer conditions (COPD, heart failure, liver disease)
Current projects feature VOICES-Children questionnaire development, a national survey on intellectual disability end-of-life care during COVID-19, and scoping reviews for end-stage liver disease patients. Her theoretical work includes Cognitive Authority Theory, which examines power dynamics in healthcare and health inequity.
Awarded Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, her honors recognize educational excellence. She actively supervises PhD students including Lucy Anne Lewis and Rawnaq Almahadeen, while teaching health professionals and pre-registration nurses in palliative care, clinical leadership, and research methods as module lead for e-Research Methods.
Her research is supported by grants including The Burdett Trust for Nursing. She contributes to the Ageing and Dementia research group, with publications spanning palliative care measurement, health disparities, and bereavement across diverse populations.
