Andrea Bruun

Andrea Bruun is a Research Fellow at Kingston University's School of Nursing, Allied and Public Health, within the Department of Public Health and Children's, Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Nursing. Her work focuses on palliative care, learning disability, and communication within healthcare contexts. She is currently involved in the DAPPLE Project (NIHR159160), developing service models for palliative care for adults with learning disabilities, and previously contributed to the Victoria and Stuart Project (NIHR202963), co-designing end-of-life care resources for disabled populations.

Dr Bruun holds a PhD in Prognostication in Palliative Care from UCL (2023), an MA in Linguistics (Aarhus University, 2019), and a BA in Linguistics with supplementary Lectiology (Aarhus University, 2017). Her research integrates conversation analysis with interdisciplinary healthcare studies, emphasizing inclusive methodologies for marginalized groups.

Her publications explore hospice multidisciplinary team interactions, end-of-life care planning for people with intellectual disabilities, and communication strategies in palliative contexts. She has pioneered participatory approaches to designing accessible healthcare resources, particularly for minoritized ethnic groups and individuals with disabilities.

Bruun has conducted studies on systemic medication risks, compassion dynamics in caregiving, and financial insecurity's impact on terminal illness patients. She collaborates with hospice teams, social care providers, and disabled communities to bridge gaps in end-of-life care accessibility and communication.
