Dr. Lynn Reinke is a Clinical Professor at the University of Utah College of Nursing, holding the Claire Dumke Ryberg, RN, Presidential Endowed Chair for Palliative and End of Life Care. She serves as Director of the Family Integrated Healthcare Collaborative within the College of Nursing. Dr. Reinke is internationally recognized for her expertise in palliative care, particularly in dyspnea management for patients with advanced lung diseases.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Informatics from the University of Washington (2008)
- Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Health Services R&D at the VA Health Care System in Seattle
- Healthcare Policy Fellowship through the Hartford Foundation/VA Health & Aging Policy (2018)
- Translational Implementation & Dissemination Health Research training from the National Cancer Institute, NIH (2019)
Dr. Reinke's research focuses on improving palliative and end-of-life care delivery for patients and families facing serious illnesses. She is internationally recognized as an expert in dyspnea management for patients diagnosed with advanced lung diseases. Her NIH, VA, and foundation-funded studies test nurse-led palliative care interventions and aim to improve clinicians' end-of-life communication skills. Her work addresses critical gaps in the palliative care workforce, particularly through innovative fellowship programs that prepare advanced practice clinicians for specialty palliative care roles.
Dr. Reinke has received numerous professional honors including selection for the inaugural cohort of the Cambia Sojourns Scholars Leadership Program (2014), Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing, and serving as the 2024 President for the Hospice & Palliative Nursing Association and Foundation.
Her leadership extends to significant institutional roles, including previously serving as Co-Director of the UW Palliative Care Graduate Certificate Program (2019-2021) and currently directing the Family Integrated Healthcare Collaborative at the University of Utah. She has secured substantial grant funding, including the Advanced Practice Clinical Palliative Care Fellowship program designed to address workforce demands and serve underserved populations.
As an educator, Dr. Reinke teaches interdisciplinary professionals about high-quality palliative and end-of-life care and evidence-based communication skills. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on Death, Dying, and Bereavement; End-of-Life Palliative Care; and DNP Scholarly Projects.
