معرفی
Katherine Aubrecht is an Associate Professor in the Chemistry Department at Stony Brook University. Her research focuses on chemical education, particularly integrating sustainability into chemistry curricula, STEM knowledge integration, and systems thinking. She also investigates sustainable materials, including biodegradable polymers derived from renewable resources like chitin and cellulose. Her work addresses environmental challenges through both educational innovations and material science advancements.
- Education: B.A. Reed College (1992), M.S. and Ph.D. Cornell University (1996, 1999), Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Minnesota (1999–2001).
Research Interests:
- Sustainability education emphasizing anthropogenic impacts and green chemistry principles.
- STEM interdisciplinary learning barriers and metacognitive strategies.
- Systems thinking pedagogy in foundational chemistry courses.
- Development of biorenewable polymers and their environmental degradation studies.
Recent Research Trends: Her publications span climate change education, sustainable polymer synthesis, and nanomaterials for environmental remediation. Early work includes catalytic polymerization mechanisms and fluorinated organic compounds.
Grants & Labs: While specific grants aren't listed, her work aligns with NSF/NRT QuADS and NIH T32 CBTP training programs mentioned in the department context. She leads initiatives connecting high school students to sustainability labs via field trips.
