Nicholas Robertson

Nicholas Robertson is a Professor of Chemistry at Northland College, where he has taught since 2009. His research focuses on developing biorenewable materials and reducing environmental waste through synthetic chemistry. He earned a PhD, MS, and BS in Chemistry from Cornell University and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Robertson’s work emphasizes small-class engagement and student-led lab projects, which have contributed to peer-reviewed publications.

His research group explores catalytic depolymerization of plastics, sustainable polymer synthesis, and green chemistry applications. Notable projects include the development of recyclable polyesters, biodegradable elastomers, and CO₂-based polymers. Collaborative efforts with students highlight his commitment to hands-on education and environmental stewardship.
