Katherin Cartwright is a Sessional Lecturer and Tutor at the Faculty of Education, University of Sydney. She holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Sydney (2021), alongside a Master of Education (Research) and Bachelor of Education. Her research focuses on mathematical fluency in primary classrooms, particularly teacher perceptions, student strategies, and embodied learning approaches.
- BEd(UNSW); MEd(Research)(USYD); PhD(USYD)
Her research interests span Primary Mathematics, Mathematical Fluency, and Embodied Learning. She explores how primary teachers conceptualize fluency, students' representational strategies (e.g., drawings, oral responses), and the integration of body movement in early mathematics education.
Recent publications highlight trends in embodied learning, visual/drawn representations in mathematical reasoning, and STEM integration in primary schools. Awards include the MERGA Early Career Research Award (2018) and multiple PRSS and RTP scholarships.
- The University of Sydney's Dean's Citation for Excellence in Tutorials, 2019
- MERGA Early Career Research Award, 2018
- RTP Stipend Scholarship, 2018
She supervises students like Simarjeet and contributes to projects such as the Embodied Learning in Early Mathematics and Science (ELEMS) initiative (2021–2024). Affiliated with organizations like the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia (MERGA) and the Mathematical Association of NSW (MANSW), where she serves as president elect (2023), her work bridges research and classroom practice.
