Katharyn Howd Machan is a Professor of Writing at Ithaca College's School of Humanities and Sciences. With a career spanning over four decades, she specializes in creative writing, poetry, and fairy tale studies. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Interpretation (Performance Studies) from Northwestern University, an M.A. in English from the University of Iowa, and a B.A. in English and Speech from The College of Saint Rose.

Awards include the Ann Stanford Poetry Prize and Luna Negra Poetry Prize, alongside her 2002 appointment as Tompkins County's first Poet Laureate.
