Katharine Mach is an Associate Professor at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and a faculty scholar at the Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy. Her research focuses on assessing climate change risks—including flooding, extreme heat, and wildfires—to inform equitable adaptation strategies. Previously, she served as Senior Research Scientist at Stanford University and Director of the Stanford Environment Assessment Facility. As a key contributor to the IPCC’s Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports, her work has shaped global climate policies like the Paris Agreement. Mach also engages with policy processes, media, and communities to bridge science and action.
Educated at Harvard College (AB summa cum laude) and Stanford University (PhD), she currently serves on editorial and advisory boards for journals like Climatic Change and organizations such as the Aspen Global Change Institute. Her career emphasizes translating climate science into actionable solutions for societal resilience.
