Valentina Bosetti

Valentina Bosetti is a Full Professor of Environmental and Climate Change Economics at Bocconi University's Department of Economics and a senior scientist at the RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE). She chairs Terna S.p.A., Italy's national transmission system operator. Her research focuses on climate policy design, energy transition, and integrated assessment modeling, with a particular emphasis on addressing uncertainty in climate mitigation strategies.

She has held prestigious roles, including Lead Author for the IPCC's Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports and was a fellow at Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Studies in Behavioral Sciences (2014–2015) and a visiting fellow at Princeton University (2009–2010). Bosetti has led two European Research Council (ERC) projects: RISICO (on policy under uncertainty) and ICARUS (on clean energy innovation).

Her work bridges economic theory and policy practice, addressing topics such as carbon pricing, geoengineering governance, and the socio-economic impacts of climate change. Recent publications explore pandemic effects on climate policy attention, ambiguity aversion in decision-making, and net-zero emission pathways.
