Professor Katharine Ellis is a cultural historian specializing in French music from the 19th and early 20th centuries at the University of Cambridge Faculty of Music. Her research explores the intersection of musical tastes, practices, and France's aesthetic, social, and regulatory frameworks, spanning topics from medieval plainchant to Les Six.

Current research focuses on Catholic music history across French régimes from the Revolution to the 1905 Separation. She supervises PhD students in topics covering Debussy's reception in China and post-WWII French music festivals.
