معرفی
Katharine Bartsch is an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Adelaide, Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. She serves as Program Director for the Bachelor of Architectural Design and is the Academic Coordinator for the University of Adelaide’s joint education program with Nantong University in China, a dual-award Bachelor of Architecture program approved by the Ministry of Education, PRC.
Her research focuses on the interplay between human mobility and the built environment, particularly within Islamic architectural contexts. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives such as cultural geography, postcolonial theory, and world systems theory, she investigates how migration, pilgrimage, trade, and the pursuit of knowledge shape architectural expression in Muslim communities. Her work emphasizes the hybridity and diversity of architectural forms, with increasing attention to Muslim communities in Australia.
Her research themes include humanitarian architecture related to displacement and resettlement, as well as contemporary design informed by Islamic architectural history. She supervises higher degree research students in areas related to mobility, migration, and architecture, and is eligible to supervise both Masters and PhD candidates.
Katharine is actively engaged in international academic collaboration through the joint program in China, where University of Adelaide courses are delivered over multiple stages. This program serves approximately 250 students and culminates in degrees from both institutions.
