Katharina Lange is a Research Fellow at Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (Berlin) since 2004, specializing in the anthropology and history of the Middle East. She has coordinated working groups on "The Politics of Resources" (2014–present) and "Microcosms and Practices of the Local" (2008–2013), while holding visiting positions at Jacobs University Bremen (2007–2008) and Leipzig University (1998–2002).
- Education: Dr. phil. (2002) and MA in Cultural Anthropology/History/Islamic Studies (1997), both from Leipzig University
Her research focuses on (post)colonial Syrian history, memory studies, World War experiences in the Arab East, and ethnography of Kurdish/nomadic societies. Fieldwork includes 14 months in Syria (2002–2003) and Jordan/Lebanon/Egypt (1999–2000), with ongoing regional engagement. Publications analyze tribal identities, oral historiography, and the social impacts of dams and colonialism.

Lange's funded projects (2001–2008) examine World War experiences and nomadic societies in Syria, supported by the German Research Association (DFG). She is fluent in German, English, Arabic, Kurdish (Kurmanci), and French.
