Katharina Clausius is a Full Professor at the Université de Montréal in the Department of Literatures and World Languages within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She joined the university in 2019 after serving as an Associate Professor at the University of Victoria. Her research focuses on intermediality, aesthetics politics, and cultural diplomacy, with a particular emphasis on how art and music intersect with democratic theory and historical contexts.
Affiliations: Member of CRIalt (Intermedial Research Center) and OICRM (Observatory for Musical Creation and Research). She has led or co-led major projects funded by Genome Canada, the Fonds de recherche du Québec, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Her recent work includes studies on the Canadian Genetic Non-Discrimination Act and Weimar Republic cultural legacies.
Teaching and Mentorship: Supervises MA and PhD students in interdisciplinary fields like intermedial studies, political philosophy, and opera history. Encourages creative research projects and professional development workshops. Current research teams explore topics ranging from Mozart’s cultural politics to bioethical implications of genetic data.
Awards: 2021 Excellence in Research Medal from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
