Prof. Katharina Boele-Woelki is the President of Bucerius Law School and holds the Claussen-Simon Endowed Chair in Comparative Law. Previously, she was a Professor of Private International Law, Comparative Law, and Family Law at Utrecht University (1995–2015). She founded the Commission for European Family Law (CEFL) and the Utrecht Center for European Family Law Research (UCERF). Her research focuses on comparative law, family law, and private international law, with notable contributions to European legal harmonization. She has received honorary doctorates from Uppsala, Lausanne, Antwerp, and Pretoria. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Hague Academy of International Law and the Hamburg Academy of Sciences.
