Dr Kath Norman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Durham University. She earned her MChem in Biological and Medicinal Chemistry from the University of York (2016) and a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Leeds (2020), supervised by Dr Richard Foster, Prof. David Beech, and Mr Marc Bailey.
Her research focuses on small molecule inhibitors of calcium ion channels and their role in pathological vascular remodelling, alongside science communication and outreach initiatives targeting underrepresented groups in chemistry. Recent publications analyze calcium channel inhibitors, organic chemistry pedagogy, and pandemic-era practical science education.
Kath teaches organic and biological chemistry, coordinates postgraduate research projects for Durham's MSc in Data Science, and holds leadership roles in the department's EDI Committee and Natural Sciences Management Committee. She is funded by the MRC Discovery Medicine North (DiMeN) DTP studentship and actively promotes chemistry through schools, festivals, and open days.
