Katerina Velentza

Dr Katerina Velentza is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Environmental Humanities at the University of Hull's Energy and Environment Institute. Her research focuses on archaeology, heritage, climate change, and sustainability, with a particular emphasis on maritime cultural landscapes and traditional watercraft. She holds a PhD in Archaeology (2020) and MA/Maritime Archaeology (2016) from the University of Southampton, and a BA in Classical Archaeology from King's College London (2015).

Key projects include leading 'Community Waterscapes' (2024-2025), exploring Hull’s relationship with water through community engagement, and the Kone Foundation-funded study of traditional Aegean shipbuilding (2024). She also contributed to the Leverhulme Centre for Water Cultures and the Blaydes Maritime Centre.

Awards include the Kone Foundation Fellowship (2024), recognizing her innovative work on traditional watercraft sustainability. She actively participates in international research networks, contributing to initiatives like the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
