Dr. Kate Slaney is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University (SFU), holding the additional role of Associate Dean, Graduate Studies. She earned her Ph.D. in psychometric theory from SFU in 2006 and has been a tenured faculty member since. Her research focuses on the philosophy of psychological science, methodological critiques, scientific practices, and historical/philosophical aspects of psychological measurement. She directs the Studies in Methodology and Philosophy of Psychological Science Lab and is a member of the Critical Psychology Network (CPN).
Education: Ph.D. in Psychology (Psychometric Theory), Simon Fraser University, 2006.
Research emphasizes theoretical and applied psychometrics, meta-analysis practices, rhetorical styles in psychological discourse, and ethical dimensions of scientific communities. The lab fosters interdisciplinary inquiry, with current members including Richard Hohn, Charlie Wu, Megan Graham, and others. Dr. Slaney’s work bridges critical scholarship and empirical methodology, advocating for rigorous scientific practices.
