Dr Kate Porcheret is a Third Century Research Fellow at Manchester Metropolitan University in the Department of Psychology, part of the Faculty of Health and Education. Her work focuses on the interplay between sleep, stress, and performance, particularly in caring professions.
- PhD in Clinical Neurosciences from the University of Oxford
- Background in Biological Sciences from Imperial College London
Her research examines sleep's role in processing traumatic experiences, including longitudinal studies of survivors of the Utøya Island Terrorist Attack and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare workers' sleep in Norway. At Manchester Met, she leads the Manchester CARES Cohort Study, investigating sleep-stress relationships in students training for caring professions.
Active in the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS), she serves on the Web Editorial Board and previously chaired the ESRS Early Career Research Network Committee. She contributes to science communication through podcasts, articles, and the ESRS Sleep Science Friday publication.
