Dr. Kate Myrna is an Associate Professor in the Department of Small Animal Medicine & Surgery at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in Ophthalmology. She holds a DVM from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (2004) and an MS in Comparative Biomedical Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her career includes advanced training in Small Animal Ophthalmology through internships and residency programs.
Her research focuses on corneal wound healing mechanisms, ocular pain management, and myofibroblast transformation in corneal pathology. She investigates novel approaches to reduce stromal haze formation and improve postoperative analgesia in companion animals. Dr. Myrna’s work bridges clinical ophthalmology with biomedical engineering, exploring nanoscale topography effects on corneal cells.
Dr. Myrna contributes to veterinary education and clinical service through the Veterinary Teaching Hospital’s Ophthalmology Service. She has published extensively on topics ranging from toxic anterior segment syndrome to equine ocular drug delivery.
