Dr. Kate Martini is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Western Michigan University (WMU), affiliated with the Industrial Organizational Behavior Management graduate program. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Psychology from WMU (2019 and 2012, respectively). Her research focuses on environmental design, engineered solutions for resource efficiency, and smart building technology, with an emphasis on applying behavior analysis to promote pro-environmental behaviors. She has pioneered projects such as real-time energy feedback systems and waste management strategies, influencing WMU’s construction policies.
Before joining WMU’s faculty, Dr. Martini served as a Sustainability Specialist at a major craft brewery, implementing energy efficiency programs and launching the region’s first restaurant compost initiative. She also contributed to WMU’s sustainability efforts through roles in the Office for Sustainability, leading campus-wide recycling and LEED certification projects. Her certifications include Environmental Communications (Duke University) and Building Operator Training (BOC).
Her work bridges environmental science, social psychology, and organizational behavior, addressing large-scale sustainability challenges through interdisciplinary solutions. She is currently accepting graduate applications for Fall 2025.
