Kate Lawson is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Waterloo since 2002. She teaches undergraduate courses ranging from first-year literature surveys to advanced special topics like 'Bleak House, Bleak Nation,' and graduate courses in Victorian literature focusing on the Brontës.

Her research centers on mid-nineteenth-century British fiction, emphasizing Charlotte Brontë, literary influence, and intersections between literature and historical discourse. She explores themes such as domestic violence, colonial governance, and narrative epistemology.
Recent publications analyze Elizabeth Gaskell’s Mary Barton, Brontë family dynamics, and Charlotte Yonge’s works. Her research often bridges literary analysis with historical and societal contexts.
