Emily Morris

Emily Morris is a Sessional Instructor in the Department of English at the University of Saskatchewan, affiliated with St. Thomas More College (STM College). She holds a Ph.D. (2010), M.A. (2004), and B.A. (Honors) (2002), all from the University of Saskatchewan’s Department of English. Her research focuses on Victorian women’s writing, feminist critiques, and the works of Elizabeth Gaskell and Charlotte Yonge. Morris has contributed to edited volumes and peer-reviewed journals, analyzing themes like gender, agency, and social progress in Victorian literature. Her teaching spans foundational courses in poetry, drama, and narrative, as well as specialized modules on feminist theory and Victorian-era literature. She serves as the Sessional Representative on STM College’s Faculty Committee.

Research Interests: Morris’s work explores gender dynamics and agency in Victorian literature, particularly through the lens of feminist theory. She has a deep scholarly focus on Elizabeth Gaskell’s narratives, analyzing their portrayal of social class, ethical dilemmas, and cultural contexts. Her research also extends to Charlotte Yonge’s contributions and broader themes of women’s authorship during the Victorian era, emphasizing how literature reflects and critiques societal norms of the time.

Teaching and Administrative Roles: Morris teaches courses such as English 111 (Reading Poetry), English 112 (Reading Drama), and advanced modules like Feminist Critical Theory (English 282) and Victorian Prose/Poetry (English 334). Administratively, she represents sessional instructors on STM College’s Faculty Committee, advocating for their roles within the academic structure.
