Professor Kate Huppatz serves as the Interim Deputy Dean in the School of Social Sciences at Western Sydney University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on gender, work, social class, and family dynamics, with a particular emphasis on motherhood, flexible working arrangements, and labour force participation in marginalized groups.
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, addressing gender equality and reduced inequalities. Key research interests include the intersection of gender and occupational status, care work, and the sociological impacts of the pandemic. Notable projects include evaluations of workplace initiatives for carers and studies on the effects of Pacific Labour Mobility on children in South Pacific nations.
Publications highlight themes such as young adults’ financial practices, fathers’ engagement with flexible work, and the socioeconomic challenges faced by Vietnamese single mothers. She has contributed to policy-relevant research, including reports on unlocking women’s potential in Western Sydney’s labour market.
