Kate Donovan is a Research Fellow and Associate Scholar affiliated with the 4A_Lab at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut. Her work bridges art history, media studies, and environmental humanities, focusing on listening practices, radio’s more-than-human dimensions, and transcultural border-crossings. She holds an M.A. and completed her doctoral thesis, *Radio as Relation. Listening and the More-than-Human*, within the SENSING research group at the Brandenburg Centre for Media Studies in Potsdam (2023–2024).
Her research explores the entanglements of sound archives, seeds, and radio waves as dispersed cultural and ecological phenomena. Collaborations include the Ethnological Museum in Berlin and projects with collectives like *Planetary Listening* and *Shortwave Collective*. Donovan’s practice spans artistic interventions, radio installations, and academic writing featured in journals such as *Versorgerin* and *Seismograf*.
Key projects include *Sound Seeds*, examining geopolitical border dynamics through sound and seed dispersal, and *Radio Otherwise*, an artistic research initiative critiquing dominant historical narratives. She has contributed to festivals like Sonic Acts Biennial and Werkleitz Festival, blending art, activism, and scholarly inquiry.
