Andrea Jaeger is a Lecturer in Photography at De Montfort University, affiliated with the School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Her research and practice are deeply rooted in posthuman photography, sensory methodologies, and artistic research, challenging traditional image-centric paradigms by emphasizing material, sensory, and process-based dimensions.
- Institute of Art and Design
- Institute of Creative Technologies (IOCT)
She holds a PhD in Posthuman Photography from Nottingham Trent University (2024), an MA in Photography Arts from the University of Westminster (2009), and a BA in Media Studies from HTW Berlin and Deakin University Melbourne (2005).
Her research explores posthuman and relational aesthetics, sensory and multimodal approaches, experimental and process-based practices, and photography’s intersections with expanded media. She integrates more-than-human agencies, non-representational theory, and hybrid techniques into her work, often using sound, video, and participatory installations.
The recent publications reflect a sustained inquiry into performative research, materiality in photographic labs, and collaborative artistic processes. They span disciplines such as artistic research, posthumanism, visual culture, and experimental media, demonstrating a transdisciplinary and practice-led approach.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan (2024)
- Early Career Researcher Prize, Nottingham Trent University (2022)
- Attenborough Arts Prize (2015)
- Advance HE Fellowship (2023)
- AHRC Midlands-3-Cities Scholarship (2018–2024)
Andrea supervises PhD candidates, including David Molnar, and has held multiple artist residencies, such as at Keio University, Polaroid Originals, and Nottingham Trent University. She is an active member of research collectives including the British Art Network, Lumina Collective, and Backlit Galleries. Her teaching covers critical research, contemporary visual culture, and professional photographic practice.
She has been an Associate Artist at the Virtual & Immersive Production Studio (University of Nottingham) and holds professional certifications in Deep Listening and Visual Thinking Strategies.
