Birmingham City Universityمعرفی
Dr Kate Carruthers Thomas serves as a Senior Research Fellow at Birmingham City University and holds the dual role of BCU Athena SWAN Project Manager. She is recognized as an Equalities Charter Associate (Athena Swan) for Advance HE and co-convenes the national Higher Education and the COVID-19 Pandemic (HEC19) research network hosted by the Society for Research in Higher Education (SRHE).
Her research centers on gender dynamics in contemporary higher education systems, critical analysis of academic writing conventions, and innovative creative research methodologies. Notably, she integrates her professional skills as an illustrator and poet directly into research dissemination, creating multimodal outputs that challenge traditional academic communication norms. This interdisciplinary approach bridges social sciences with artistic practice to explore equity issues in education.
Dr Thomas leads the institutional implementation of the Athena Swan Charter across Birmingham City University, driving gender equality initiatives. Her leadership in the HEC19 network demonstrates active engagement with pandemic-related disruptions in academia, though specific supervisory details and grant funding remain unreported in available sources.
