Kate Bowie is a Research Fellow in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University, affiliated with the Yale School of Medicine. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Oregon Health & Science University (2023) and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (2015). Her research focuses on microbiome dynamics, hormone receptor signaling in cancers, and computational tools for biomedical data analysis. Bowie is a member of the Gerstein Lab, where she investigates interactions between host physiology and microbial communities, particularly in urological and oncological contexts.
- Education:
- PhD, Biomedical Engineering, Oregon Health & Science University (2023)
- BS, Chemical Engineering, University of Notre Dame (2015)
Her work spans interdisciplinary topics including:
- Microbial DNA analysis in bodily fluids
- Glucocorticoid/estrogen receptor cross-talk in breast cancer
- Development of open-source tools for microbiome data visualization
- Biomarker discovery for prostate health and metabolic disorders
Bowie's recent studies highlight correlations between urinary microbiome diversity and lower urinary tract symptoms in men, as well as novel insights into GR/ER coactivation's role in cancer progression. She contributes to translational research bridging basic science and clinical applications.
