This work intersects Australian War History, Military History, and Memory Studies while analyzing evolving governmental policies regarding war dead repatriation and burial practices.
Dr Ariotti's scholarly recognition includes:
- ARC DECRA Fellowship for her war corpse research project
- Nomination for the Les Carlyon Literary Award (2018) for 'Captive Anzacs: Australian POWs of the Ottomans during the First World War'
She actively supervises honors and postgraduate students in Australian history, with several advisees winning national prizes. Her teaching focuses on 19th-20th century Australian history, complemented by public engagement through museum exhibitions and writer's festivals. Prior to UQ, she held research positions at the Australian War Memorial and University of Newcastle's School of Humanities and Social Science.
