Katarzyna Bojarska is an Assistant Professor at SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities, where she serves in the Faculty of Humanities in Warsaw within the Department of Cultural Studies. She holds the position of Head of the Center for Comparative Research on Memory Cultures at the Institute of Humanities and coordinates the Cultural Studies program. Her academic work focuses on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of visual culture, contemporary art, and memory studies.
Dr. Bojarska's research expertise spans visual culture, contemporary art, cultural memory, trauma studies, and affect studies. Her scholarly investigations explore how visual representations shape collective memory, particularly regarding traumatic historical events. She examines the intersections between artistic practices and memory politics, with special attention to gendered perspectives on historical trauma. Her methodological approach combines close visual analysis with theoretical frameworks from cultural studies, psychoanalysis, and critical theory.
Her publication record demonstrates consistent engagement with how visual media mediate historical consciousness and how artistic practices contribute to alternative memory cultures. As an academic leader, Dr. Bojarska serves as Chairwoman of the Board of the Visual Culture Foundation "Widok" and is co-founder and editor of the academic journal "Widok. Theories and Practices of Visual Culture." She has supervised numerous MA theses through the Faculty of Humanities competition for best cultural studies diploma theses. Her grant portfolio includes leadership roles in international collaborative projects such as RE-Past (Horizon 2020), "World as an Archive" (NPRH), and "Lot's Wives" (NCN), demonstrating her ability to secure competitive funding for innovative research in cultural memory studies.
Dr. Bojarska leads the Center for Comparative Research on Memory Cultures, which serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research connecting scholars from various disciplines. The center facilitates academic collaboration through conferences, workshops, and lecture series addressing contemporary issues in memory studies. Under her direction, the center has developed significant international connections, particularly through its involvement in the RE-Past project which connected researchers across Europe in examining how historical narratives influence contemporary European identity and integration.
