Dr. Katarina Oravcova is a Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine. She is affiliated with the OHRBID Lab (Room 337) and holds an ORCID identifier (0000-0001-5930-6803). Her research focuses on infectious disease ecology, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and pathogen genomics, with emphasis on zoonotic diseases and bacterial epidemiology. She has contributed to studies on Streptococcus species, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae.
Her work spans clinical diagnostics, genomic epidemiology, and global health interventions, including projects in Tanzania under the SNAP-AMR initiative. She has supervised multiple PhD students investigating zoonotic pathogens and veterinary medicine topics. Key collaborations include projects on pathogen genomics in outbreak investigations and the development of rapid AMR detection tools like MultiSeq-AMR.
Dr. Oravcova has secured grants from the Medical Research Council, Africa Research Excellence Fund, and SULSA Leaders Award. Her research combines molecular biology techniques with epidemiological analysis to address One Health challenges, particularly in low-resource healthcare settings.
